My most productive work days have this in common.
It’s just one thing, and it’s relatively short: It’s 2 to 3 hours of uninterrupted time focused on solving one big thing.
It’s just one thing, and it’s relatively short: It’s 2 to 3 hours of uninterrupted time focused on solving one big thing.
But I’ve set up a few helpers to get me into that place:
I do at least 10 minutes of meditation every day (which helps me to realize focus is important and helps me, ironically, to notice these big things that need solving in my work)
It’s any form of sports (because we’re not brains on walking sticks)
It’s checking my emails only twice a day (once in the middle, once at the end of my workday, to keep my cortisol levels in balance - which in turn helps me to focus)
I have a simple rule: I ship things. If I work for 2-3 hours after that period, I’ll have something ready to ship. It can be a draft, a prototype, a campaign, or whatever. It has to leave the solitude of my company and go out into the world to get feedback.
